Zuccardi Q Chardonnay 2020
Notes of white fruits, like peaches, pears, and apples, are well integrated with the notes in the fermentation and oak-aging process: vanilla, white chocolate, and toasted bread. Unctuous, balanced finish. Sliced apple, apricot, lemon zest and chamomile on the nose. Hints of white pepper, too. It’s medium-bodied with bright acidity and a fresh, mineral finish. There’s a little more ripeness in the 2020 Q Chardonnay, which comes from a warmer vintage. It has aromas of yellow fruit and a rounder mouthfeel, still serious and austere but a little gentler and more approachable when compared with the surprising 2019. It still has moderate alcohol and very good freshness. The 2020 Chardonnay Zuccardi Q comes from Tupungato and is half aged in 500-liter barrels, the other half in concrete. Yellow with a golden sheen. The aromas begin with hazelnut and lees followed by stewed peach. Austere and saline in the mouth with tension and just a touch of fat; yeast aromas appear toward the end. A modern, Burgundy-oriented wine.
