Howard Park Flint Rock Shiraz 2017
Deep and dense garnet in appearance. Lush plums and black cherry fruit seasoned with pepper, spice, vanilla and mocha greet the nose. On the palate the wine is dense and redolent of blackberry, plum and cherry, laced with licorice and cocoa. The mouthfeel and texture of the wine is rich, velvety and supple. Try something different by matching Howard Park’s Flint Rock Shiraz with a potato and chorizo omelette! Inky ruby. Primary dark berry and floral scents show fine clarity and pick up hints of cracked pepper and licorice with air. Lively and seamless on the palate, offering juicy black raspberry, cherry and floral pastille flavors and a touch of smoky bacon. A bitter chocolate note appears on the clinging finish, which is framed by fine-grained, well-knit tannins. This is quite a savory example of the variety for Australia. The 2017 Flint Rock Shiraz comes mostly (80%) from Frankland River. Oak spice and vanilla notes add extra gravitas to the peppered cherries and chocolate aromas and flavors. It’s medium to full-bodied and nicely concentrated, with ripe, creamy tannins that glide into a softly dusty finish.
